GOP Idea: Promote Government Innovations
A personal pet peeve of mine is when Republicans confuse “no government” with “good government” --- doing so results in electoral failure; deservedly so. Specifically, everyone dislikes government, unless we’re talking about Social Security, Medicare, the military, health research, education, roads and bridges, police, firemen, student loans …. You get the idea.
So, the conservative challenge is not to argue with the public whether the problem they want solved is the province of government, but to show that the problem can be solved more efficiently by government --- or more effectively by private enterprise. The goal of this site is to bring those solutions to light --- with the hope that readers will argue for and implement those solutions in their states and communities.
For a preview of many of the policy innovations to be featured here (in convenient, database form), see the Government Innovator’s Network at the Ash Center at Harvard. They have successful initiatives categorized by region and topic. Let me know if you know of any programs in your local community that have solved social problems (and, this IS a Republican site, so private and nonprofit activities are encouraged!)
